Representatives of renewable energy association visit NEMSA, willing to collaborate on standards, safety

The representatives of the Renewable Energy Association of Nigeria (REAN) has offered to work with the Nigerian Electricity Management Services Agency (NEMSA) to institute high standards and safety in the deployment of renewable energy projects in the nation.

The offer for collaboration was made recently, according to the release signed by Ama Umoren Mrs.,Head Communications & ProtocolNEMSA, when the representatives of REAN paid a courtesy visit to the management of NEMSA in Abuja.

The REAN delegation, led by its President, Mr. Ayo Ademilola said REAN was committed to promoting strict adherence to standards and safe practices across the renewable energy industry. He noted that the Association, which brings together over 300 stakeholders includes developers, service providers, researchers, and equipment manufacturers, is actively working to harmonize local and international standards for the Nigerian market.

The REAN President introduce its Standardization Working Group and sought NEMSA’s support in setting up a liaison desk that will serve as a dedicated channel for coordination, inspections, certifications, and information sharing. REAN also invited NEMSA to participate in its upcoming Energy Access Roadshow — a state-to-state sensitization campaign aimed at educating practitioners and the public on safe renewable energy practices and compliance requirements.

Engr. Aliyu Tahir, MD/CEO NEMSA, commended REAN’s proactive approach and disclosed that NEMSA was already collaborating with other regulatory bodies such as the Standards Organisation of Nigeria (SON) and the Nigeria Customs Service to tackle the influx of substandard products and unqualified installers.

Both parties however agreed to set up a joint technical working team to identify priority areas for awareness campaigns, align training programs, and develop effective strategies for nationwide education and enforcement. They also pledged to ensure that standards promoted within the sector are properly domesticated to guarantee compliance with Nigerian law.
