NISO Management engages steel, cement, power generation companies on grid stability, improved services

The Nigerian Independent System Operator (NISO) has stepped up efforts to stabilise the national grid with a series of high-level stakeholder engagements in Abuja.

On Tuesday, September 16,, the Managing Director/CEO of NISO, Abdu Bello Mohammed hosted leaders of Nigeria’s steel and cement industries in the maiden dialogue on power supply efficiency and grid stability. 

The NISO Managing Director described the industries as strategic partners, stressing that their role as heavy consumers makes them critical to building a resilient grid.

According to him, the engagement was designed to share realities of grid operations, listen to industry concerns, and explore joint solutions for improved supply, power quality and stability.

In a related development, NISO on Friday, September 19, held a technical session with Generation Companies (GenCos) to accelerate full integration of Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition/Energy Management Systems (SCADA/EMS).

Mainstream Energy Solutions (MESL) presented its successful implementation at Kainji, Jebba and Zungeru power plants, sparking discussions on the need for plant-by-plant readiness assessments. 

The session ended with agreed action points, while MESL Academy pledged to support other GenCos in the integration process.

Both engagements, NISO said, form part of a sustained framework to strengthen collaboration with key stakeholders towards a transparent, efficient and stable national grid.
