The Chairman, Senate Committee on Power, Sen. Enyinnaya Abaribe was all praise for the Association of Power Generation Companies as members celebrated their 10th year anniversary.
According to Abaribe, “The Association of Power Generation Companies has distinguished itself as the unified and authoritative voice of Generation Companies in Nigeria, consistently championing the interests of the power generation sector while working in harmony with government agencies, regulatory bodies, and development partners.
“Through persistent engagement and strategic advocacy, the Association has contributed significantly to shaping discourse around energy security, investment attraction, and operational sustainability within our power generation landscape.”
He equally called on all stakeholders to collaborate with APGC to achieve the much desired energy transition, “I urge continued support and collaboration with APGC as we collectively work toward realizing Nigeria's energy transformation agenda.
“The challenges ahead require coordinated action, policy consistency, and sustained investment, and I am confident that through platforms such as this Association, we can achieve the reliable, affordable, and sustainable electricity supply that our nation deserves.”
Speaking earlier the MD/CEO of APGC, Dr Joy Ogaji highlighted the association’s achievements which include:
• Engaged government, regulators, and market operators to improve performance, liquidity, market transparency, and payment discipline.
• Strengthened industry collaboration between GenCos, gas suppliers, NBET, and the Transmission Company of Nigeria.
• Promoted discussions on tariff rationalisation, contract sanctity, and investor protection.
• Supported capacity-building initiatives and represented GenCos’ collective interests at national and international energy dialogues.
According to Ogaji, “We have not only built relationships; we have built trust. We have not only spoken; we have been heard, and through perseverance, we have ensured that the voice of Power generation Companies, the heart of Nigeria’s electricity system, remains strong and relevant.”
For the next decade, she said APGC would focus on:
• Deepening engagement on energy transition and climate resilience;
• Strengthening investor confidence through consistent policy advocacy;
• Promoting new technologies and renewable integration;
• And ensuring that every GenCo, regardless of size, thrives within a fair, efficient, and competitive market.
