Improved nationwide security in October – NOA, DG
The Coordinator, Monthly Joint Security Press Briefing, JSPB, Mallam Lanre Issa – Onilu has disclosed that the EFCC has recovered over N566.6 billion, $411.6 million as well as 1502 landed properties in the last two years under the Olukayode’s leadership.
The Coordinator of the monthly JSPB, who is also the Director General of the National Orientation Agency, Mallam Onilu made the disclosure during the October edition of JSPB in the NOA Headquarters in Abuja yesterday.
According to him, while N100 billion of the recovered funds has been reinvested in the national students loan program and national consumer credit scheme, some of the recovered properties have been allocated to public institutions for their usage. He confirmed that NOA was among the beneficiaries of the property allocation which it has refurbished and converted as one of its offices.
“The Federal Government,” the Coordinator said, “was turning recovery into public good by ensuring that every kobo recovered from corruption works for the people by funding education, consumer credits, health, etc”.
Mallam Onilu posited that security synergy among the military, DSS, Police and Immigration Services improved measurably in October producing faster interdictions and fewer casualties when compared with September operations.
He submitted that terror linked arrests rose by 33%,rescue of abducted persons rose by 40% and fatalities dropped by 12% which indicated the effectiveness of joint operations by the security services.
ICPC was reported to have recovered N840 million + $919,000, received 44 petitions, concluded 15 investigations, filed 5 new cases in courts and got two convictions during the month of October.
While NAFDAC seized over 70 containers of counterfeit and unsafe goods, NDLEA dismantled 14 drug syndicates, arrested 1378 suspects and secured 251 convictions, NIS, on own, rescued 76 victims of human trafficking and processed 15,000 visa applications during the month under review.
Federal Road Safety Corps, on it part, recorded a drop in fatal crashes following its intensified “Ember Months” campaigns.
For the National Orientation Agency, NOA, citizen outreach grew from 25 million to 32 million citizens (+28%), fact checking interventions on misinformation increased by 40% while community partnership expanded from 1050 to 1460 grassroots clusters.
The Joint Security Press Briefing Coordinator, Mallam Onilu called on citizens to be vigilant continually and report any suspicious activity promptly as well as always support enforcement by cooperating with security agencies to maintain the peace and keep the society safe.
