Abia State Gov Otti ground-breaks new NDPHC set of distribution projects to improve power supply in Umuahia

The Executive Governor of Abia State, Dr Alex Otti, performed the groundbreaking of key power distribution projects in collaboration with Niger Delta Power Holding Company Limited (NDPHC) to boost electricity supply in Umuahia and environs.
In line with NDPHC’s commitment to expanding reliable power infrastructure nationwide, the company awarded the construction of the Umuahia distribution infrastructure project aimed at supporting industrialisation and economic growth in Abia State.
The project consists of:
- 1 X 1.75MVA, 33/11KV Injection Substation
- I km X 33KV Line, 1.2Km X 11KV Line
- 2 X 300KVA Distribution Substations
- 2 Km X Low Tension Lines.
The Abia State Government in appreciation of this laudable project approved by the Federal Government has committed to upgrade the injection substation to 15MVA by approving the installation of an additional transformer capacity of 7.5MVA.
Speaking at the event, Governor Alex Otti thanked Mr. President for his effective redirection of the national outlook on electricity to accommodate a broader spectrum of stakeholders, including States, and appreciated the NDPHC management led by Engr Jennifer Adighije for looking favourably to Abia State for the strategic infrastructure investment designed to improve power distribution within and around Umuahia.
He stated that his administration is determined to solve the energy problem in various ways and committed to adding another 7.5 MVA capacity to the injection substation.
In my opening remarks, as the Commissioner for Power and Public Utilities, I highlighted that the significance of the project is to improve power distribution within Umuahia which falls in line with the whole power transformation agenda of the state.
The M/D and CEO of NDPHC, Engr. Jennifer Adighije who was represented by the Executive Director - Networks, Engr. Bello Bello, described the groundbreaking ceremony as a significant milestone in their ongoing efforts to strengthen Nigerian power infrastructure, enhance industrial productivity and support sustainable economic growth across the country.
He commended Gov. Otti for his commitment to collaborating with NDPHC considering that the company believes that access to reliable and stable electricity supply is critical to national development.
